3. Promoting art through art

  • To increase the interests of people in art as well as to promote it in area other than the capital city of Kathmandu, a group of fifteen young artists have taken their initiative to devise training sessions on art to children from rural areas, this time of Panauti and Nagarkot.
  • With the project called “Children’s Art Project 2007, Kathmandu – Panauti – Nagarkot”, the artists have been putting up their best effort to create an awareness regarding the significance of art in the pastoral areas of the country.
  • Besides training children belonging to the orphanages of Kathmandu, Nagarkot and Panauti, the artists have been collecting stationery items such as pencils, paper, crayons and watercolors to donate to these orphanages.
  • In Nagarkot, for instance, the group has focused on Tamang Basti where the knowledge of art is very minimal. They have been teaching the children of the community schools and local orphanage the basic know-how of artistic techniques.
  • "The scenario of art is growing rapidly, but only in urban areas. Even at places only few miles away from the Kathmandu valley, the people to promote art I every corner of the country", beamed artist Juju Kaji Maharjan. Adding further, he said, “Art is essential even in such subject courses as biology and mathematics. Moreover, one can always take up art as a profession. Thus, to provide a career option to disadvantaged group of children, we’re sharing our knowledge and skills with them."
  • From July 2, the group is organizing an art exhibition at the Baryo Fiesta of Naxal and 50% of the proceeds generated from the event will be used in the aforementioned project. More than will, it takes courage to use one’s skills and devote one’s time for the benefits of others.
  • The endeavor of these artists is indeed inspiring, and thus, all of us should contribute even in our very little ways to take our society to greater heights. This is the message behind the Kathmandu – Panauti – Nagarkot Project.
